Oh yeah - Republic of Doyle is back!!

Okay I know last time I spoke if tv-shows I made a list of my five favorite tv-shows which counted Hawaii Five-0, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Medium and How I meet your mother, but I've have to confess I forgot one. A very important one at that - and I do know why I forgot it. It is not on Tv in Denmark and at the time I did my post on Tv-shows it was actually on a break too.

The show I am talking about is Republic of Doyle. It is a Canadian show and if you happen to be Canadian you can watch it here: http://www.cbc.ca/republicofdoyle/

If not you can either buy the first season here: http://www.cbcshop.ca/CBC/shopping/product.aspx?Product_ID=ETART00246&Variant_ID=ETART00246&lang=en-CA

or you can watch the episode from the first season here:
http://www.casttv.com/shows/republic-of-doyle#episodes

And I highly recommend that you do one or both. Republic of Doyle is one of the must well-written shows I've seen in a long time. It balances between being a drama with family relationship, a crime-solving show full of mysteries and comedy.

The show stars Allan Hawco (who is also a writer and producer on the show) as Jake Doyle. He and his father Malachy runs a PI service in St. John's Newfoundland and the locations of the show is another reason all on it's own to tune in. Newfoundland is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places on earth.

If you are still not convinced whatch this clip:

Funny right? I hope you will enjoy this show as much as I do :) And the show has just started it second season which looks like it is gonna be just as good if not better that the first season :)

Golden Globes in dresses - the good, the bad and the wierd...

Golden Globes means lots and lots of dresses. Beautiful dresses, bad dresses and well very very wierd dresses ;) Let begin with the bad ones shall we. This year brought lots of salmon colored dresses which in my opinion rarely compliments anyone, but none of these were among the worst (eventhough I kinda hoped one of them would be ;))

This one is horrible. First of all the colors are boring and the dress does absolutly nothing for Julianna Margulies breast. The entire shape of the dress is just wierd and what that knot looking thing is doing on her side is still a mystery to me!

I just taked about salmons and eventhough this dress is not salmon colored it kinda makes Anne Hathaway look like a salmon. The sequins on the dress kinda makes it look like she is covered in fish scales besides the dress does make her look older than she is.

And know to the wierd ones:

I've gotta say I've never been a fan of dresses that looks like underwear, which this one does, but that is not what makes it wierd. Is it me or does it look like Halle Berry has wrapped her see-through curtain around her waist??

Well wierd doesn't necessarily mean bad. I would diffinatly never even consider wearing a dress like this, but I still find it pretty amazing. It is wierd, colorful and it looks totally out of place, but still is fits Helen Bonham Carter. She is beautiful in her own uniqe way and I love her guts and her style. This dress is a peice of art and it fits her style perfectly ;)

And now to the beautiful ones ;) I've got three fav ones and I am going to share them all with you.

Jennifer Lopez looks elegant as always. I love her style and I always look forward to see what she is wearing at the award shows and she didn't disappoint me this time either. The dress is simpel and beautiful but what makes the dress is the almost see-through shawl around her shoulders. A perfect choice that compliments her figure and beauty.

Another woman I am always excited to see at the award shows are Catherine Zeta-Jones. She is a very beautiful woman and I also love her taste in dresses. This one is among my fav one I've ever seen her in. I love the layers, the fabric and the cut. Not to mention the color is really amazing.

This dress is dress is my absolute favorite. Natalie Portman did an amazing job when she picked this dress. She looks amazing and the layers of the dress shows of her beautiful tummy. I love the way it floats on her and the rose really makes the dress stand out. To quote Ole Henriksen I Looove it ;)

Can't wait for the Oscars, but if you wanna look at more Golden Globes dresses until then here is the place to do it: http://www.life.com/image/first/in-gallery/54571/golden-globes-2011-all-the-dresses#index/0 :)

Enjoy!

Another crime novel

Okay I know I said that I wanted to read Prized Possesions next, but I couldn't really seem to get started on that one, so I pick up Sherlock Holmes instead which was a quick read. I love the old Sherlock Holmes movies and Tv-show and the new movie is quit good too. I must say I don't think I'll be a keen reader of these books either, but for a crime novel is was great and I do think I might have to get my hands on a few more Sherlock Holmes books at a later date :) Click on the picture if you wanna know more about the book.

"So I'll just say what you won't say.."

I've always liked James Blunt's music but I've gotta say his new album sounds like it is going to be a good one.

I just came across this video yesterday and it keeps getting better everytime I hear it :)

First crime novel no hit!

The first crime novel I chose to read (as part of the book challenge I am taking part in this year) was Deja-Death by Kathy Reichs and it was not nearly as good as I expected. It is safe to say I prefer the show Bones which is based one these books than the actual books.
The book is a slow starter and it never really caught my interest. A few times I actually found myself reading without noticing what I was reading = I was bored.

So this first one was not a succes. Crime Novels has never really been my thing but I will keep trying since January is not through yet. My next attempt will be Prized Possesions by L.R Wright will hopefully turn out more to my liking.

A heroic gift

Every year in Denmark one the country's biggest newpapers Morgenavisen Jyllandsposten nominate 10 regular people as heroes in collaboration with Trygfonden (Safety Foundation). It is up to the readers of the paper and the general public to decide who should get the honor of calling him or herself hero 2010 and be rewarded with a 100.000 kr. check. I am very proud to annouce that this year one of the people on the list are an alive kidney donor.

This contest is set up to honor everyday people who do something extraordinary for someone they may or may not know. Ruth Birk was named the hero in 2009 for her work to support the families of danish soldiers at war. I've always admired this contest because it rewards people that normally wouldn't consider themselves as heroes aswell as inspire others to step up and help others where it is needed.

This year the nominees hold lots of potential heroes fx. 2 teens boys who saved 2 young girls from drowning in a pool this summer, a young woman who founded girltalk.dk which is a place where teen girls can get advice and help on big and small problems, but the one person I really think deserves to be called a hero this year is a guy called Brian Madsen.

Brian Madsen's friend and colleague Jens Staal for 15 years is suffering from diabetes and the disease was tough on his kidneys which made him worse and worse. Eventually it became clear that the grueling dialysis for life was the only option if a donor kidney was not found for Staal. So Brian Madsen stepped in. He let himself be tested and he was a match. On the 10th of August he gave his friend the gift of life in form of a kidney and he says he would do it again and even that he is sad that he doesn't have another kidney to share if he's friend should ever need another transplant, which hopefully will not happen for another 20-25 years. This man is a hero in my eyes and he deserves to be recognized as one, so if you are from Denmark please vote for him as Hero 2010 here: http://www.aaretshelt.dk/afstemning/

January movies!!

Here are a few movies I plan to see this January:

Due Date with Robert Downey Jr. because he is a great actor and this movie looks like it has a great combi of sweetness and fun :)

Love and other drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. A friend of mine showed me the trailer a few month back and we made a date to go see the movie when it was realesed in Denmark and now the month is here and the trailer looks even better to me know that the first one I saw (which is not always the case)

Next Three days with Russell Crowe because the movie looks fast and exciting besides Crowe is one of my favourite actors. I've got a date with my sister to go see this one and I look forward to spending a day in Aarhus with her (shooping, dinner and movie - a great sister day!!)

Another movie I think will be worth a look this January is Biutiful - A story of a flawed man that somehow still leaves some beauty behind where ever he goes (Just like the misspelled title) - A film I'm without doubt going to have to see someday!!

Black Swan with Nathalie Portman. The trailer looks amazing and the film has been given great reviews no matter where I look besides Portman is a great actor:

This movie: Season of the witch I actually just discovered, but the trailer looks amazing. It is with Nicholas Cage (since he is my mom's fav actor maybe I can get her to go with me ;)) and it has that great mixed look of fairytale and history to it

Book Challenge 1: Crime Novels

Okay this book challenge has proved to be just that. I don't often read Crime Novels so I hasen't been easy for me to find a book I found interesting (add to it it has to be written before 2000 and it is next to impossible)!!!

I know, I know - I am wailing especially since I ended up finding more than one book - but not without help from friends and ispiration from TV and it still wasn't easy. I am not sure I'll end up reading them all but here is what I came up with - 5 different novels by 5 different authors:

1. This first book is written by Arthur Conan Doyle and it is called The hound of Baskersvilles. I have been meaning to read a Sherlock Holmes novel for quite some time now and I thought it was about time. I know the stories of the british detective very well from TV and the 2010 movie, but I am embarresed to admit I actually
never read one of the books.

2. This next novel is written by the author Ian Rankin - and I have never read anything by him but I do weakly recollect the mini series one tv about John Rubus played by John Hannah. This book is also about John Rubus and I have been meaning to try out these books to for a while now and the book challenge is a good excuse.

3. This novel is called The Third Twin and the writer is Ken Follett - an author I am very fimiliar with. He has written books like A place called freedom (one of my favorite books and worth a read), Pillars of the earth and Whiteout - but I have never read this one - well because it is a crime novel and as I said I don't normally read to many of those, but Follett is a great writer and I thought he should make the cut.

4. My forth choice is by the author Kathy Reichs with one of her books about Temperence Brennan. You may know the name from the tv-show Bones and yes it is Reichs' books about her crime fighthing anthropologist which inspired the show. I love the show but I have never read any of the books so I thought I'd better start with the first: Deja-Death.

5. This last book on my list is actually the one I am looking forward to the most. I have never heard of the author before nor the book and the only reason I picked it was because the summary sounded great. I can't wait to read this one and I thing it might be the one that surprises me the most - if it is going to be in a good way or a bad way I can't tell yet.
So these are the books I am going to read this month if the library is quick enough to get them to me and if I find them catchy enough I might get through them all - if not well than atleast I've gotten started on crime novel and who knows - I might like it :)

"I hope I don't sound insane when I say there is darkness all around us"

I've gotten the idea to change the design of my blog every month in 2011 so it matches season's changing. This month is January - which means Denmark is frozen over, cold, and snowy - ergo the snowflakes and the frozen look my blog has this month. January is a clear and beautiful month - but strap on you skates and pull the hat down around your eyes and enjoy the Danish winter beauty.

Now all we need is a little music to fit look. This is The Avett Brothers with January Wedding.
