"Oh yeah"

I just finished watching my first episode of Republic of Doyle, and I gotta say this show is amazing!
The show is funny and exciting, the actors are great and the settings are beautiful. The show is about Jake Doyle the former cop turned private investigator. The style of the show are classic "cop-show" with a great comedy edge :D The show in itself is amazing and as I said the settings are stunning. The show is filmed in beautiful St. John's Newfoundland and is definitely worth a watch:

"I just wanna have some fun..."

"It's harder to be killed by a rattle snake than a piece of cake" ;D I love this silly silly song ;D Sit back and let Sean McCann entertain you :D

The song is called "Bad for me" and the man singing is Sean McCann from Great Big Sea. And it is just hilarious :D

Seasons of the soul

I wrote this poem about a month ago and it is called Seasons of the Soul and it kinda stays with my theme from last nigth, that no matter how bad you might feel there'll always be brighter days ahead :D

The heart withers and falls
breaking with every lie
The leaf falling from a tree
like a tear from the eye
Like the ponds that freeze over
so does the heart, little by little
Like a fall between summer and winter
So am I - stuck in the middle

With the rising of the spring
a soul will be set free
Like the newly born kittens
I'll open my eyes too see
The beauty of the sky
and the world that now is
I broke lose from the cold of winter
floating like the bird - toward my forgotten wish

Some nice honey:

and my beautiful friend:

Hope this makes u smile dear ;D and as a bonus i'll throw a pic of "our boys" in too ;D

Something beautiful waiting for you and me....

I started out wanting to write about sad song... it's a varm summer night and eventough it's raining outside nothing really seemed that bad. So this is about seeing the beautiful that will come once the pain has past. Or about the light in the darkess ;D Listen to the song and feel a bit better...

This first song is about the person who will be with you through it all. No matter how dark the worlds seems a few people will always light up somewhere near you. So allow yourself to see them!!

Bruce Guthro - Someone

Katie tells us not to worry our lives away and think about today instead of tomorrow.. In some ways that aren't that bad an advice you think??? And the video is just so beautiful ;D

Katie Melua - If the lights go out

And finally my fav singer reassures us that everything will look alot brighter soon and a heart that never rest will see the beautiful days soon!

Great Big Sea - Something beautiful

Remember: "There's no bitterness that smolders, no chip on any shoulder
That a random act of kindness couldn't cure"

Time for bed ;D Just love this oil painting and it's of one of my fav blogs Paintings in Oil by James Neil Hollingsworth.

Remember that the life we share is nothing but a song...

The newest Great Big Sea single - Nothing but a song. An awesome song and a funny video ;D

Dreams are to blame......

So it’s finally here ”Safe upon the Shore” in my living room, but the new Great Big Sea album was well worth the wait!

The pressure have been on with this album, cause not only is it the lads’ tenth studio release, it is also the follow up to the popular amazing Fortune’s Favour the band released in 2008, but this one lives up to my every expectation without a doubt.

The styles of this album are to the untrained ear very changing, but to a GBS fan it is done in best Doyle/Hallett/McCann style. And it’s really truly hard to say which songs poop out at me ‘cause it’s a new one every time I hear the album.
Listen along and see if you agree with my judgement ;D http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/10
Sean McCann kicks the album off with his bodhran and very cool vocal track on Long Life, leaves you wanting for more….

Nothing but a song is the perfect choice of song for the first single and I love the way their voices harmonies together. Beautiful, and I am off course a huge fan of the bodhran, and no one plays it quite like Sean McCann does. Amazing!

Yankee Sailor and Wandering Ways are the two love songs of the album. Done very differently. Alan Doyle mourns the loss of a girl to another man and he sings the song in a way that makes you feel his every emotion. Emotions the beautiful whistles only empathize. Wandering Ways has Sean McCann on lead vocal and to be frank he sounds like an old pirate, which sound very cool. Sean not only mourns the loss of his wife and child, but in a way also the wild life he left to grow up and be a husband and father. A bit autobiographic and awesome… one of the more folk sounding songs on the album!

Which lead me to the traditionally based songs on the album, both of them very different from each other as well. The first one is Over the hill written and song by Bob Hallett but based on a traditional song. Bob sings it very well and I love the bagpipe section. Very cool. The other traditional song is done by Sean MCann and got a rock sound to it, which I love by the way :D Nice to hear Sean do a song in this style and it wouldn’t be a Great Big Sea album if McCann didn’t kill anyone! ;D

The last song which is not written by the lads themselves on this album is a Kinks cover called Have a Cuppa tea. I love the fact that Sean and Alan finally do a song together again.. very nice and hilarious. Almost as funny as Hit the Ground and Run written by Doyle and Russell Crowe at the set of Robin Hood. Alan’s vocal track is so cool in this track.. gotta love the half talking half singing and once again a banjo that sounds cool ;D

Another funny song on the album is Road to Ruin. A very folk sounding song amazingly by Mr. Doyle and the homage to Loch Lomond is done perfectly:

You can take the sunshine
And I can take the moonshine
You can take the high road
And I can take the low
Give the lyrics a whole new meaning, gotta love them for that :D

There are 2 songs that falls a bit outside the usual GBS style though, one is to the better and one is to the worse.

Follow me back song by Bob Hallett is a very pretty song, but it just doesn’t belong on a Great Big Album by a long shot. Sean’s Good people on the other hand somehow hit the gbs style even though it sounds a bit countyish as well. One of my fav songs on the album, and my guess for the next single.

Which lead me to another song that could turn out to be a single, Dear Home Town. A beautiful song about song on the road with a family waiting at home. Alan brings a tear to your eye and the horn section is very beautiful, don’t remember hearing horns on any GBS song since Penelope!

Another song that brought a tear to my eye (maybe more that one) was the title track Safe Upon the Shore and off course the album’s only shanty is done by the shantyman Sean McCann. A beautiful sad song to fit the cover :D

Which only leaves the last song of the album I don’t wanna go Home and I surely don’t want them to either. A very fitting song so sum up the album, song by Alan Doyle. A touching song which is a opposite to most of the songs. This song is about needed the music and loving the life as a musician. Good work lads… 6 stars from me :D

I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite lyric quotes of the album counting down to my fav one ;D

5. The sea just sits silently
But sometimes she does more
And someone weeps as her love sleeps
Safe upon the shore (Safe upon the shore)

4. What in the Lord's name was he thinkin'?
You can't blame this all on drinkin'
You can count the family teeth upon one hand (Hit the ground and run)

3. We were poor,
But I was satisfied
And I thought that you were too
You were pure,
And I was terrified
I wasn't good enough for you (Yankee Sailor)

2. Dreams are to blame
They still linger and remain
In the heart of a child whose been gone (Dear Home Town)

1. Man ain’t nothing if he ain’t got a friend
Down and out without a penny to spend
The bells above will ring in the end
Good people (Good People)

So godnight to all of you good people and if you like what u hear and see you can by the album on http://www.greatbigsea.com/store/
Cheers for now peps <3

"My love like a voice"

Okay I'll be the first to admit I never thought I would like this kind of music, let alone love it as much as I do now. Tell you the truth I discovered this band by pure coincidence.

I usually don't watch David Letterman unless I know an actor I live or a band I love is one, but this day nothing else was on, and I was bored so I watched Letterman... and there they were; The Avett brothers take a lot and be amazed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3H5BhWQij8 .

The song is the title track of their newest album and the next day I rushed to the stores to buy this album .. and the day after that I was off again.. my mom wanted it too ;D

Not sure why this very simple, maybe even a bit stripped down album seem so amazing to me, but there is something about the voices, choice and use of instruments that hits me... and never did I think the banjo could sound this cool!!

There a lots of fantastic songs on this album. January Wedding and Ten Thousand Words are so beautiful and movin. I love the vocal track and the pace of My heart like a kick drum and the changing pace and I'm tempeted to say style of The Perfect Space. Sligt figure of Speech is amazing and has me singing and dancing every time, but the best song on the album to me is still the title track I and love and you.

One of the things this band does best though are the lyrics. Sometimes a line our a phrase just poop when you hear a song and The Avett brothers got louds of these. A verse like this get me every time:

When at first I learned to speak
I used all my words to fight
With him and her and you and me
Oh but it's just a waste of time (from I and love and you)

And this line really touches me too:

I had news to give the wind to keep myself and my heart employed (from Tin Man)

Not only are these brother's incredible musicians they are also great artists.
This album hides 3 portraits of the bandmembers all done by Seth Avett. But must amazing is his oil painting on the cover.

It is called "Julianne in Vain," and I'm not quite sure why i love it, but I do. There is something very empowering about this sad older woman. The skull and the look in her eye and the skull shows strenght while the rest of her seem fragile and lonely enough to break. Amazing :D

I will leave you with this line from an older Avett Brothers song ("Murder in the city" of "The Second Gleam" give it a listen to if you want: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE7rkSELM3I) :

"Always remember there is nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name"

Favours from the sea

A bit frustrated today.... How much easier wouldn't it be if I could just love a Danish band? But No!! The best band in the world have to be from Newfoundland, Canada and even worse... not many other people in Denmark other than me have realized how amazing this band is. I'm talking about Great Big Sea offcourse :D

For the very reason that not many danes have discovered this awesome band I am compelled to order their music online, which i happily do, since I like supporting the band directly, BUT and this is a big but!!!! The mail from Canada is annoyingly inaccurate and my new cd is now two days late (the releasedate was the 13th)!!!

The cover art illustrates the the album title as well as tilte track (listen to it on http://greatbigsea.com/) stunningly well.

This gorgeous oilpanting is done by Grant Boland and is in itself an awesome piece of work.
I love Bolands work. I have lots of his paintings hanging around my appartment and it definitely wont be the last time i mention him or his work.

This paticular painting is called "The breaking of the bonnie lass"

What is amazing about this piece is the blue and golden lighting and how he makes something as sad as the loss of young love and death seem so incrediblely beautiful.

The way he with only a few lines shows the storm that have been roaring at sea is now clearing and the shadow over the young sailors face that illustrates death taken a hold of him.

Another thing I love about this painting is the gaze in the young man's eye. To me it seems as he is still dreaming of home, the shore and the girl he'd leave for the sea, not knowing he is already there. So beautiful. So sad. So heartbreaking.

As much as this drawing touched me, the song Safe upon the Shore, sung with great emotion by Sean McCann, made me cry!!

So my advice to you is look at the painting, listen to the song and prepare to be moved people!!! ;D
